Yesterday afternoon was our beach clean at Weston beach in partnership with The Donkey Sanctuary. Ed and myself were joined by members of our Tuesday volunteer group, James Chubb from The Donkey Sanctuary and members of the public. The group met at The Donkey Sanctuary car park at 1pm and walked down through the valley to Weston beach where we spent the afternoon collecting litter from the beach. On the way down the beach steps Ed pointed out the purple gromwell growing on the grassy banks.
As part of the beach clean we carried out a survey of all the rubbish collected for the Marine Conservation Society’s beachwatch, once we have collated all the data we will send it off to the MCS. In total we collected 10 bags of rubbish ranging from small bits of plastic and polystyrene to plastic bottles as well as a number of large objects like fish crates. All the rubbish had to be carried up the cliff path where it was loaded onto our trailer and taken up for disposal in a skip which was kindly provided by The Donkey Sanctuary.
A huge thank you to all who came along to help with our beach clean.
